Hair salon- Customer service

Back2myroots: A place to share thoughts and grow idea’s. B2MR

Service as stylist salon owners managers. We know we are in the service industry but how much time  do we give to thinking about the service that we offer and give. Is it real service value for money? Do we go that extra mile to make that experience so very un forgettable?
Think on this A client becomes a client a soon as she or he enters your world, Not just once she or he is front of you or once you’ve finished your service! cool ha? Has this got you thinking a little?
Thinking more on service as a topic.Imagine your next client arrives flustered maybe a tad late. How you respond to this will set the tone for this encounter this time spent together.
Maybe they are running late due to an external force Irritation from a last meeting a business matter, personal issue. How do we respond to this? Make sure that your client leaves happier than when they came in! Don’t give them cause to carry their frustration over on to you. Don’t allow them to leave in the same mood as they came in with.
Imagine the customer that you have in front of your right now is the only person in the world-pay attention welcome them be present be in the moment. We only ever get one chance to make  a first impression. That first impression on the salon it look it’s image it’s identity so make it work.

The same can be said for the the look of the staff as a whole but also that first impression we as a professional project. That Image that says this is me who can i help you!

Great customer service is. A chance to be a proud representative of the salon but more importantly you represent your self as a true caring professional. A positive influence an expert in your field. No matter what service you are performing. From giving consultation advise to shampooing or technical work.
What ever part you play it’s all a part of the service it’s team work and collaboration Food for thought. The term ‘Can i help you’ can cause antagonism! Why?  Because  that’s what they are here for, your help. Especially If you deliver it with the wrong tone. Try. Out a phrase that works for you feels natural and genuine.
A simple ‘Good Morning or Afternoon’ followed by what i can do for you today. This opens the door for discussion. be ready to offer suggestion/ guidance if they hesitate. remember your the professional they have come to see. that smiled professional consultation.
Always remember that time spent with a client is about the experience you offer the interaction and not about the transaction! It’s not just about the money the fee /bill. It’s not about doing the service and charing it’s about the reassurance on money well spent an investment in oneself the feel good factor. We are skilled professional we get charge a fair rate for the service we offer and the looks we create that is why we go to work. When busy and working at a study pace know your day. Asking ‘Who’s next’ Can be very off putting! keep track of how your day is unfolding, know who is arriving , who needs help, control your day. Your are the Star in the play ‘That is the salon’ .Your clients and the interaction you have is just one scene in the play of today. Your assistance are part of the cast make sure you all know the role you have to play. To make it run smoothly.

Live in the moment with your client, each appointment is the only one that matters at the end of the day you can review the financial reward for a job well done.
Treat every client with respect, regardless of appearance or spending power. You never know who is in the cycles of influence for future recommendation. A satisfied client may not tell everyone on about you but they will recommend you and service you gave the experience you shared. You will get recommended when your name come up in the circles they move in.People’s paths always cross.
Remember that engaging with client’s always pays off in one way or another you never no when. Even if there way no sale  on that extra service or product you get to share you got to practice your pitch you have opened the door for next time .
Offer great experience great service and there will always be a next time.

Hairstylists our career our vision our journey or?

Back2myroots : A place to share thoughts and grow idea’s. B2MR

How did we get into hairdressing? What drew you to it as a career? Was it a calling your true vocation? Are some of us really doing what we have known we always would do. Is it our destiny!

How often as stylist do we take the time to look in the mirror?  Do a personal inventory on ourselves. This is the time to honestly reflect on where we are at. Where we want to get to. Are we reaching our full potential? Are we challenging ourselves are we growing? Are we offering the best service possible? Do we need a refresher a little update maybe learn or improve on a skill or technique, maybe a course in management and or staff relations. Maybe your involved in education and training. How current are your skills? Are you in touch with the industry and all the changes that happen at grass roots level? In the salon on the high street?

Hairdressing has changed so much over the years and i would say for the most part these changes have been good and very warranted. From training to health and safety issues. The way a salon or spa is run and the  services it offers. The hours of business. the certification the qualification all changed. We no longer have those seasonal high, That pre Christmas frenzy,Of course it’s still busy but not the way it might have been in the 80’s or 90’s.

Products available to us have changed we have so much more choice. With these choices comes the need for. Education and vigilance and knowledge. We have to ask questions to get the answers. The only silly question is the one that is never asked!

Tools techniques constantly change and so must we. Staying in the safety of zone of what we know never pushing the envelope can and will lead to stagnation boredom! we need to communicate with our work and team mates share visions with owners and managers, be innovative have and share creative thoughts we all benefit from this type of thinking and collaboration.

We all need to remind our selves from time to time of our dreams our goals. What was it we really wanted to do?  What were the heights we wanted to reach? All easy to forget pushed to the side as other things come into our lives and take president. As we settle for easy street. we stop questioning we stop challenging our selves an those around us.The skills we have to have for success in our industry are many and constantly need up dating to maintain our profession integrity and image.

We are in the service industry first and foremost make no mistake about this one. Service. our communication skills. Our listening skills. Our attention to detail. How we project and represent our selves. Honesty. with humility. Style all key assets to success.

Skills: Product knowledge. Hands on techniques .Creative vision. Innovative Thinking.

All of these skills and talents are a part of who we are! What we do! From time to time we forget, that to stay at the top of our game we need to invest in our selves. To have closer look at what we want an then decide on what we need to do to make change happen. We are in the business of solving problems are we not?

A little self maintenance:

*Are we offering the highest standard of service possible?

*Are we getting a little complacent? {it takes a big person to say yes!}

*Are our skills up to date?

*How is our product knowledge!

*Is it time to seek a little professional help.

We are all stronger together. We all benefit from sharing. From taking the same journey!

Maybe a colour refresher class. Maybe learn a new razor cutting technique. Want to improve on those up do looks. Maybe just talk about ways to improve the salon day to day running the client experience sales!

How can you find help?  Reach out and ask? Days can be structured to suit what ever you want to cover. A fresh set of eyes and new perspective on things can open up a whole new exciting era of change. If reading this you think hey this is me then send that e-mail pick up the phone lets chat let take a journey together. If i cannot help you i will point you in the right direction resources are at hand always.

My web site has all my contact information and full bio on me anything is possible all you have to be is willing to work towards making change happen. ours is such an exciting positive industry full of so many amazing motivated passionated professionals. All working to try and raise standards.Innovate and share a wealth of experience. All any of us has to do is raise a hand and ask for help and guidance.

The hair industry and social net working.

Welcome to BACK2MYROOTS B2MR regular postings of fresh new topic’s

A place to share thoughts review hair colour and products.

SOCIAL NET WORKING and MEDIA SITES. They are here to stay: There is no going back we have to embrace this new technology. We have to learn it. Use it. Control it.

What role does Social net working play in our lives? How does it effect the sharing of knowledge and information? How can it help promote our salon and let us stay connected with our clients? From the mobile phone. To the android smart phone. To the revolutionary I pad and the tablet. They have changed our lives completely.

Firstly I think any one in their mid fifties and over have had a huge learning curve to contend with all the constant changes in technology. Although we have grown up with this technology as it has developed and grown. The younger generation have grown up knowing nothing other than. A mobile phone. A computer and the world wide web. and now smart phones and the tablet not forgetting App’s!!!

With the onset of. Computer technology. Smart phones. The internet and the way we share and research information. Our lives have been changed forever. The way we do business, communicate, research information, changed forever. Our skill set has to change. Our thinking has to be more innovative more creative. How can we use this resource what can it do for us.How can it help us. These tools are still only as good as the person operating them. We have to learn how to use and and unleash all this power and knowledge.

The fact that we can promote our business with a web site designed to promote the image we want to project, get out our unique message. Link it to our blogs to Twitter or create a specific group page on face book.We have the ability to post comments join in be part of a connected world. This is all so instant and positive and a great way to connect and review comments and thoughts, share information, net work, discuss. Have a voice have and opinion. I write on this topic because of comments made on my blog. It has been suggested that certain topic’s that I write and post. Should not be linked and posted on some of the sights and various media applications available to us. Those being. Face book,Twitter, and other groups and sites. Some general sites. Some of the sights posted by companies for sharing. I alway ask permission and they are always relevant! So why not! If asked to remove or stop i always will comply.

I work very hard to net work and share information. I read material posted by others. I leave comments. Some times good. Some times not so good. Always honest and thoughtful. I actively invite communication the sharing of views and thoughts. Just because a topic is posted it does not mean it has to be read. More and more businesses and individuals post blogs and have a social net page. From the Salon owner to distributors. To stylists. From tweeting to sending texts,we stay informed current connected. Now days having a social page and by sharing information and allowing posting of relevant information. We connect, we net work. The day is here when we can connect with our clients with an App book that next appointment, remind of upcoming appointment, keep up to date client records, No more need fro tatty magazines it’s on the salon I pad!!

This gives us huge exposure an international a global market. It also means we have to be on top of our game. We have to think about our market, We have to think about our ‘Brand’ Our image. Our message. As a medium it so easy to get your word out share thoughts knowledge education. So much instant exposure can also have an element of risk!

From a business point of view just being able to net work with other like minded individuals has to be good to long term exposure for your business. The ability to net work and share globally with other like minded passionate professional is inspiring. resources such as Skype Video. Webinar..make anything possible any place any time!

To suggest that net works and specific group are only formed to improve business based on making money is very narrow minded. I think that sharing connecting moving forward is far more key to success than just worrying about the money making aspect of any group?

‘That’………………….  ‘whats in it for me train of thought’  Is very small minded!

Today in the Hairdressing profession ‘THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY’  The ability to share knowledge. Business idea’s. Style. Education for stylists. Mangers.Owners alike to meet net work and share views thoughts concerns. To be honest and transparent. For clients to research products and looks share experience read reviews. To discuss product share information warning create debate.

A great example the picture below: Planning a ski holiday. looking at house swaps. listening to I tunes and having discussion. Also present 1 Blackberry,1 i Phone,1 Android, and me! it’s the time see live in.it’s not rude it’s not anti social. It’s progress.

My experience of using the web has connected me with some wonderful passionate professional driven and motivated professional from Australia to United states from Chicago to Queens land from Vancouver to London. LinkedIn as a medium to connect with other professionals to share profile your experience is an amazing global success.  It has allowed for sharing of views thoughts and cross promotion of material. The link below is a classic example of net working getting connected. We all just need to be honest and have an open mind reach out and share. A year ago I started net working sharing some views and blogs on a site In Australia now a year later I’m working with Karen and David to help promote the educational and business support they offer salon owners and stylist’s. It came about through mutual trust respect and a wanting to make a difference.

We have to give and put out unconditionally and what comes back can be quite amazing! This for me is all the reason why i write my hair dressing blogs net work and post views and reviews.
