Hair salon influences and change

Back2myroots : A place to share thoughts and grow idea’s. B2MR

The hair Industry is multi dynamic in it’s many branches that come together under the heading.

‘Hair industry’

From: The salon to manufacturing from manufacturing to education skill training, personal development. Career path and challenges.

Educator, artistic team member, platform artist, salon owner, manager, freelance/chair or booth renter. distributor or sales representative.

Change happens it’s constant from the products that are available to us. This new must have technology  we have to have. However we also need to question how and why they work understand any side effects Are they safe ! We must be educated on these products feel confident they are safe for us and our clients.

What dives the invention and investment into research of new product technology? Is it sales and profit yes of course. First and foremost it’s driven by Media demand from promotion and advertising. Now with the internet with the tablet with the android more than ever, clients can see it see instantly the results see the look they are hooked they want it!

Of course it’s our job to deliver but it’s also our professional duty to be the moral compass. We have to have the knowledge and the skill to inform advise and educate our clients on the products it’s pro’s and con’s for there will always be both!

Influences.

This economy this global shift has been a wake up call to any one in business and we in the hair industry are not and have not been immune to this. The seasonal spikes that we could rely on no longer exist that Christmas rush that spring make over that pre holiday do!

Staying in touch with discussion groups and forums shows me that many salons are struggling, many are looking for a way to turn things around. Many are relying to discounting, some are taking short cuts maybe compromising on product quality. Just treading water trying to survive.

We all need to take a deep breath evaluate where we are what we want. Re visits those goals that vision and re focus. We have to embrace new technology. We have to collaborate more with staff or team members. Learn to use the power of the media social net works collaborate with staff to promote the salon it’s services in a positive way.

Be strong enough to seek out professional help and advise. Maybe we need to think of this shift as a new beginning, a time for reinvention, a time to revaluate and start with over with a new rekindled energy and out look, Change and indeed challenges can and do seem so daunting because it forces us to look at things in different light encourages us to think out the the box.

We can all make difference in so many ways. Start with that vision build your team have an ongoing in house training program. Develop your team have apprentices train then share your skills investing them they are the future become the teachers develop your an their future, use the colleges for the theory for you trainees to get certified work with the colleges and collaborate on training for they certainly don’t have all the answers they need also to adapt to the industry changes and salon demands.

Work to develop these young enthusiastic creative stylists grow with them, grow develop and learn together.

Products source what works for you both for salon use and retail don’t carry to much stock. Address the skills and passions of each and every salon member, encourage courses and extra training both in salon and external. work with your manufacturer and supplier on education up date and in houses training events. . The salon as a whole has to have the highest standards of training and expertise, individually encourage  specialisation become unique a destination location a place of excellence in even field. The palace that is talked about a place that people want to be associated with. Community involvement, be it linked to the gym healthy centre or supporting local events collaboration innovative thinking.

How do we get beyond thinking of ‘clients as one time walk in’s’ and consider them as long term potentials?

When will we start to consider all those clients who ‘come once never to return’ ! Those lost opportunities to make a first and last impression. When will we take the time to think. ‘In fixing someone else’s mistakes’ will it could it cost me potential ‘Clients’. Part of this new thinking is. ‘We are in the service industry’. ‘We are not in the server industry’. Professional boundaries and mutual respect must exist. The client is not always right neither are we balance and being open to change and the unexpected and dealing with and addressing issues solving problems.

That first impression the personal image we present. How we communicate and articulate our suggestions the art of listening. Being a professional in your field of expertise thus giving sound advise. Executing and delivering the service advise in highly skilled professional way with the highest expertise and skill offering a wonderful experience. Charging for your time and expertise. No discounting. No little bit off at the cash register. Being paid for a job well done. This is what a client expects and wants nothing more nothing less. Discounting could suggest that ‘you did not do your job as well as you could have’. ‘It will be better next time’. ‘Thank you for letting me try’. ‘Sorry i could have tried harder’. Do any of these a good message? a message of professional confidence and assertiveness.

Yes things have changed they will continue to change to challenge us so we have to learn to embrace adapt and be ready so that we can keep up with the every changing demands and wants that our industry dictates as it grows and developed. We all have the strength to do this .We can also connect with other professional share experience seek advise offer advise competition is not always a good thing  it can become so distractive and negative both within the salon and  if competing with business around you. Discounting is competition sadly it’s not he who gives the biggest discount who wins.

We all have new technology new products new tools. Constantly changing techniques and demands to sill levels. We have an industry in a state of flux. We have change and challenges to face. We have social media devices and we all have to embrace all the changes and the challenges they pose. Exciting times is the only way to look at it.

Quote /review

In writing Double Your Salon Succes, Karen Lynch shows she has a true understanding of the hairdressing world. She reveals the very essence of what makes for success by identifying the combination of service, consultation and sales that are needed to grow and be current. This book encapsulates so much of what we as stylists forget or take for granted. As Karen shares with us Pamela and Skye’s journey, she takes us on a roller coaster ride from start to finish. She reveals their struggle to make their dream a reality which is at times frustrating and emotionally upsetting and at other times exhilarating. As we read, we think “hey, that could be me; that is so right; what a great idea.” From start to finish, this book is a thought provoking and entertaining read that will leave you wanting to take the challenge to walk a new path to success.

Investing In Oneself

Investing in oneself

Welcome to BACK2MYROOTS B2MR regular postings of fresh new topic’s http://www.back2myroots.co.uk/

sharing my vision

sharing my vision

Investing in oneself!

What does investing in oneself really mean?  Is it costly?  Is it worth while?  Let me tell you, investing in oneself does not have to be financial –  it could simply be time well spent!  We must all look in the mirror and be honest about what needs attention or adjusting, but the real key is knowing, from the bottom of your heart, what you truly want and where you want to go.  Your vision. your dream, your quest.

This of course does not mean that financial expense is not part of this. Sometimes parting with hard earned cash is the driver and the motivator. to seek help, do the work, reap the rewards.

This help comes in many forms. It could be helpful books, seminars, courses, presentations, demonstrations. The key is to have a vision of what you want, where you want your career to go.

Think of your career as a bus journey. Lots of people on board with you, but hey, you’re the driver, take your eyes off the road and oops.

Take charge of your bus

Are you in the driving seat?

The things we do define us. It’s these things that motivate, and inspire us. Question who you are, what you do, what really empowers you. The challenge is to ensure you have the right knowledge and tools to feel empowered. That feeling of positive affirmation will help you take charge and live your dream.

Courses, be they technical, hands on, shows, or demonstrations, are all very worth while.

However the real motivator is being creatively challenged, getting excited, having fun at work and in your life.

Over the past months my personal mission has been to build an internet presence: networking, learning to write a blog, creating a professional hairdressing group. Although at times frustrating and very challenging, it has forced me outside of my comfort zone, a place none of us like to be. Over this period I have had the great fortune to meet, share thoughts and ideas, with some really positive like minded people. These are inspirational, passionate, industry professionals. They have a vision. These are the people I want on my bus to learn from, share with, take a journey with.

Creating something new, learning something new, is not easy.  At times it can be frustrating, scary, emotional, but with time, patience, commitment, it can be so rewarding.

You can invest in yourself by sharing with others.Yes! Sometimes we have to put out, give something away to get so much more back. It’s the balance of the way things work.

Teaching and sharing. These are the keys to success and personal growth. What is the point in knowing lots if you don’t share? For me it comes under one umbrella, ‘experience, strength, hope.’ These three things in some ways can define who we are, what we want.

What do you want? What are you prepared to do? What lengths will you go to to fulfill your vision?

You also need to look around you on the bus. Who do you want on this journey, who needs to get off at the next stop! Some will get off along the way. That’s life and that’s ok.

who do you want to journey with

people get on and off along the way!

It is my firm belief that people come into our lives for a reason. Some times it’s a lesson we need to learn. Some stay around for a while, but eventually they get off for they are on their own journey.

A very few are in for the long haul. These are the people who we exchange more than thought and vision with. We exchange energy, that motivation, that excitement, that passion, when you just know that you both get it. A key lesson learned, experience shared, same vision, same dream, same journey,  although few and far between they are gold dust.

Has this happened to you? If not, it can, it should, it will. Be ready, willing, and able.

Maybe you’re happier just being a passenger. If so that’s fine, it’s safe, it’s steady. But let’s face it driving the bus must be way more fun! Of course you need to learn to drive first, but eventually you may just end up being the driver, the instructor. A world of possibilities.

How do you get started

So here you are back in front of that mirror. Take a long hard look. Take your time. Be honest with your self. Do some research. See that vision. Embrace it. Now think what steps do I need to take?

We all absorb and process information in different ways. Lucky for us now with the internet. It does not have to be just books that are available to us. Research web sites. Books will always have a place as you research, make notes, line things out, keep notes. A note book  is a great constant companion for those thoughts and ideas, a point of reference. Now we also have e-books, all the information on the screen at your fingertips.

Highly recommend, insightful, informative. A must as a companion and guide on this journey.

http://www.doubleyoursalonsales.com/

So to action

Be informed, get organised, have an agenda. But make sure however challenging, it’s fun, it’s rewarding. How long will it take? How long is a piece of string? It’s up to you but once started don’t give up however frustrating it might be at times.

The key is be open to change. The path will twist, turn, and have dead ends. The unforeseen can and will happen. Being well equipped, remembering that vision, trusting in all that research are the foundations that you have laid for your future success. Surrounding yourself with the right support group, you cannot fail if you stay true to your self. Honestly evaluate progress, stay focused. Don’t be scared to step outside of your comfort zone, however uncomfortable it might be. It’s all part of the process, the journey.

Enjoy !!!  I know I do……………. Mike

Nano Keratin: A hair break through:

Welcome to BACK2MYROOTS B2MR

Created as a source of advise education knowledge skill experience a place to share thoughts post comments and idea’s on matters relating to hair colouring skill and techniques and anything industry related.

I had the good fortune recently to have a discussion with some one from Nanokeratin systems who was kind enough to reply to my E-mail asking question about the product and it’s hair straightening properties.

The new trend name for this process is the Brazilian Blow Dry: I find this a tad generic.

Molecules of current size are limited in their ability to penetrate the hair shaft have been limited to the delicate game of chemical invasion by way of perms and colors. Shampoo and conditioning products have historically performed their job topically and have had limited ability to do much else.

Nano technology has been an engineering break through in the hair industry for a while reducing the molecular size of colour pigment to now reducing the keratin Molecule thus making it possible to perform services without having to overly open the cuticle.

Having a basic understanding of keratin and the role it plays in the hair’s structure proved to be most helpful in understanding the Nanokeratin System product.

The Nanokeratin sytemis an innovative development at the forefront of technology that utilizes Nano-molecular keratin, The name Nanokeratin means nano-molecules of keratin, a substance that successfully repairs the core of damaged hair. The nano-molecules of nanokeratin penetrate hair follicles and repair each strand.Nanokeratin system is a miniscule substance and each nano-molecule is 1/1000 of 1/1,000,000 the size of an original keratin molecule particles are so miniscule that millions of them can be gathered onto a pin head!

Minute traces of vapor with extraordinary penetration capabilities enter and completely fill damaged hair with nano-molecular keratin particles. During the next step those nano-molecules are locked into the hair as additional vapor is infused, thus creating permanent, non-soluble keratin, just like natural keratin!

Regular conditioners and hair treatments sometimes contain protein molecules, but these are too large to penetrate the core of your hair or to be precise. they naturally over the course of time are rinsed out each time you shampoo.  Anything with a larger molecular weight cannot be readily absorbed through the cuticle in to the hair many products try to attain this by changing the pH of the hair in an effort to open the cuticle more! even keratin derived from natural sources such as animal, vegetable or mineral will only lie on or coat the outer shaft of the hair they are to large to be absorbed.

Professional hair care products have always relied on the process of opening up the hair shaft chemically, facilitating the color or perm process, then “neutralizing” or stopping the chemical process thus halting the action.

The chemical process has always had the downside of “blossoming the hair shaft – causing what we see as frizz conditioners smoothing products, and moisturizers help to smooth the cuticle layer, but never fully return it to it’s previous pre-chemical luster.

As the world of professional hair care products evolves, we will see nanotechnology play an ever increasing role. Minimizing chemical damage while maximizing health and shine. feeling healthier and easier to style The Nanokeratin System appears to revitalizes hair.

The process:

The Nanokeration method utilizes the same protein that is found in your hair, keratin, but in its most minute size, thus it is locked into the hair strand where it repairs and nourishes hair immediately. Nanokeratin is simply the most advanced technology – the fastest and most efficient method in the world to repair, revitalize and care for your hair. All hair types can benefit from this innovative technology, but the results are particularly impressive in cases of severely damaged hair.

Nanokeratin is an innovative, advanced technology that was developed for those men and women who are interested in straightening their hair. Nano-technology has also been successfully applied to the deposit of hair colour molecules the red molecule is the hardest to get into the hair due to it’s size nano Technology has helped  hair scientists and chemist improve success and deposit of the red colour pigment molecules greatly

Nanokeratin  is the basis of the innovative hair straightening method called Nanokeratin sysytem this method utilizes a nano-molecular substance, nanokeratin, which penetrates hair follicles and completely coats your hair. Hair stylists perform the process using an innovative hair straightening device. This tool allows the nanokeratin nano-molecules to penetrate, coat and repair the damaged hair core and ultimately straightens the hair strand.

In our discussion i equated this process to having a slice of Swiss cheese and spreading cream cheese over the top thus filling all the holes I then equated the heat and flat iron process as smoothing down the cuticle whilst hardening the keratin i presume the dissolving substance to be an agent that also closes the cuticle and restores the ph to the hair?

Once the hair strand is coated with a layer of nanokeratin molecules, a dissolving substance is vaporized through an additional process. At the end of this process a

reaction called polymerization occurs, filling the hair fissures and making the hair both durable and flexible.

Who is suitable for  it is suggested any one as i understand more i will share and inform you with more

I really can’t imagine any manufacturer of professional hair care products not embracing this technology in the near future. Molecules that measure a mere billionth of a meter will result in products that are infinitely more capable of doing the job intended.

Nanotechnology will undoubtedly bring better and broader lines. The marketplace will fill every niche we could possibly imagine as the world of professional hair care products moves from the world of pH balanced formulations that we all came to know and love.
